Over the past few years the growing concern about toxic mold has preempted new and much needed research. We now have medical proof that long term exposure can and will cause serious health issues including, but not limited to respiratory irritation, pulmonary infection and other immune related infections. If you recognize any of these symptoms it is always wise to consult your physician. Not all molds are toxic; many common molds exist inherently in furs, wools and other natural materials.
In order to determine if mold is present in your home it is necessary to hire a certified industrial hygienist, that will be able to perform a complete indoor air quality assessment of your home. The following pictures will give you a general idea of what to expect during the remediation process. The hygienist will take physical samples of any visible mold and test ambient air quality throughout the home to gain discernable and consistent samples. Once the samples have been cultured in a laboratory you will receive a full report detailing the extent of mold growth, toxicity as well as a detailed protocol for removal of contaminated building materials and personal property. All personal are required to follow strict guidelines for personal protection equipment during remediation. Full-face respirators with special filtration and tyvex suits and disposable gloves and boots protect workers from any direct contact with contaminated material.
As an added safety measure, all workers must have a doctors clearance of good health before working in the contaminated environment. The pictures document some of the steps that are necessary to complete the mold remediation process.
